Tennessee AgrAbility joined the TN Department of Agriculture (TDA) for a webinar highlighting new statewide resources for veteran farmers. RFD-TV recently featured the brand-new Military Veteran Farmer Resources Guide, created with partners like TN AgrAbility and TN AgVOLs to support veterans exploring or expanding their role in agriculture. The guide includes permits, business planning, and success stories from veterans who’ve already made the transition to farming. The new webpage guides veterans who are looking to start or expand their farming operations by making it easier for them to find the resources they need.
TN AgrAbility, Farmer Veteran Coalition of TN, and TDA promoted the Pick TN Products and TN Homegrown by Heroes branding that honor the men and women who have served their country – and now serve their communities as farmers and producers. From honey to beef to produce, Tennessee’s Homegrown by Heroes members bring dedication and integrity to every product they make. The Homegrown by Heroes logo is one more way to thank those who’ve given so much.
TN AgrAbility is a member of the TN Association of Ag Agents and Specialists (TAAA&S) that functions to promote the agricultural interests of Tennessee as they relate to Extension and uphold the teachings of the State of Tennessee Land Grant Colleges. At the fall meeting, staff toured the new Appalachian Producers Cooperative (APC) facility. Lexy Close, APC administrative manager, explained it features Temple Grandin-inspired cattle-handling design and labor-saving, high-powered equipment. Hydraulic lifts on the kill floor reduce bending and lifting, making the work easier and far less strenuous. A big step toward a stronger, more sustainable agricultural economy in Appalachia.
